Greensboro Ends Men's Lacrosse Skid at Guilford
Greensboro, NC (04/26/00) - Senior attackman Bill Zopp (Greensboro, NC/Parkville) and junior midfielder Trevor Shattuck (Annapolis, MD/Choate Rosemary Hall) scored three goals apiece and helped Greensboro College end a seven-game losing streak with a 14-8 men's lacrosse win at Guilford College Wednesday afternoon. The triumph marks Greensboro's fourth straight over Guilford and gives the Pride a 7-3 lead in the all-time season series.
The Pride (4-9) scored five of the game's final six goals to quell a fourth-quarter Guilford rally. The Quakers trailed 8-4 after three quarters, but junior attackman Colin Smith's (Garden City, NY/Garden City) second goal of the game pulled the Quakers (3-10) to within 9-7 with 11;34 left in the game. The Pride answered with four straight scores, including their fourth extra-man goal of the contest, which put the game out of reach. Greensboro goaltender Michael Cappe (Pasadena, MD/Chesapeake) overcame a shaky start to the quarter and recorded five of his 10 saves in the final period.
Pride junior midfielder Chieu Lam (Alexandria, VA/Edison) led all scorers with six points on two goals and four assists. Zopp finished with three goals and two assists and Shattuck added three goals and one helper.
Smith, junior midfielder Kevin Dawyskiba (Norwell, MA/Norwell) and rookie midfielder David Hessler (Rockville, MD/Walter Johnson) each scored twice for the Quakers in their final contest of the regular season.
