QUAKERS RALLY FOR MEN'S LACROSSE WIN AT SHENANDOAH
Winchester, VA (04/22/00) -- Junior midfielder Kevin Dawyskiba (Norwell, MA/Norwell) scored with eight seconds remaining to lift visiting Guilford past Shenandoah, 11-10, in nonconference men's lacrosse play Saturday. The goal capped a five-goal Quakers' comeback and helped Guilford snap a seven-game losing skid.
The Quakers (3-9) roared back from a 9-4 deficit to win the contest, spoiling a six-point afternoon from Shenandoah (4-8) freshman Chris Keller (Smithsburg, MD/Smithsburg), who set the Hornets' single-season freshman scoring record. Keller has 27 goals and 25 assists for 52 points, breaking the record of 51 set by John Buchanan in 1997.
Junior Matt Synowiez (West End, NC/Easton, MD)) capped a 5-0 Guilford run with his third goal of the game to tie game at nine apiece let in the third quarter. Hornets freshman Jeff Paolozzi (Watertown, NY/General Brown) put Shenandoah back on top 10-9 with the final goal of the third quarter. Guilford junior Anthony Roman (New York, NY/Mt. St. Michael's Academy) tied the game with 9:55 left in the game, which set the stage of Dawyskiba's heroics. The Quakers defense limited Shenandoah to one fourth-quarter shot.
Guilford juniors Colin Smith (Garden City, NY/Garden City) and Jason Gauthier (Kernersville, NC/Skaneateles (NY)) each tallied twice in the Quakers' win. Guilford concludes its season Wednesday at home against crosstown rival Greensboro at 3:30 pm.
