COLORADO COLLEGE CAPTURES GUILFORD COLLEGE LACROSSE TOURNEY

Colorado College 11, Stevens Tech 3         Endicott 14, Guilford 8

Greensboro, NC (03/19/00) -- Sophomore attack Darren Malia (Barrington, IL/Taft) scored four goals and two assists to lead Colorado College to an 11-3 win over Stevens Tech Sunday afternoon in the Guilford College Lacrosse Tournament. The Tigers' third straight win gave them a 2-0 record in the four-team tourney and the tournament title. Junior defensive midfielder Jason Chircop (Longmeadow, MA/Longmeadow) won the tournament's Most Valuable Player Award.

Endicott College scored a 14-8 win over host Guilford in Sunday's second game. Both teams finished 1-1 in the tournament, but Endicott earned the second-place plaque by virtue of its head-to-head win over Guilford.

With the game tied at 1-1 early in the first quarter, Colorado College (4-3) used a 7-0 run to break the game open and take an 8-1 halftime lead. Malia scored three of his four tallies and one assist during the Tigers' spurt. Stevens Tech (1-4) never drew closer than 9-3 in the second half.

Freshmen attackmen David Shively (Denver, CO/Littleton) and Jesse Porter-Henry (Heath, MA/Mohawk Trail) and senior midfielder Alex Adema (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville-Smith) each scored twice for the Tigers. Chircop totalled 18 ground balls and one assist and helped the Tigers kill off all eight man-down situations. Colorado College, which defeated Endicott, 14-8, Saturday, played both games without head coach Kyle Hannan, who returned to Colorado Saturday morning in time for the birth of his new daughter.

Rookie mifdfielder Mike Baumbach (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) led Stevens Tech with two goals. Senior goalie David Pinto (Ossining, NY/Ossining) recorded 23 saves in defeat.

Endicott outscored Guilford 8-1 over the second and third quarters to claim the 14-8 win. The Power Gulls (2-1) seven times in a row to open a 14-4 lead before the Quakers (2-3) tallied the game's final four scores. Junior attackman Rick Riccio (Islip, NY/Islip) led Endicott with four goals and seven ground balls. Rookie midfielder Jeremy Dexter-Smith (Wayland, MA/Wayland) added two scores and a game-high two assists. Guilford junior Matt Synowiez (West End, NC/Easton (MD)) paced the Quakers with a season-best three goals.

The Quakers resume play next Saturday (3/25) with their Old Dominion Athletic Conference opener against nationally ranked Hampden-Sydney at home.
