GUILFORD'S EVERSOLE SELECTED FOR NCAA GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS
Greensboro, NC (5/04/99) -- Guilford College freshman Andy Eversole (Greensboro, NC/Northwest Guilford) earned a spot in the upcoming NCAA Division III Championship Golf Tournament, the association announced Tuesday. Eversole will compete as an individual in the 120-player field as Guilford's team missed an eighth consecutive NCAA Tournament berth.
Williams College hosts the championship tourney at the Taconic Golf Club in Williamstown, MA, May 17-20.
Eversole led the Quakers with a 76.27 stroke average and earned Guilford's Most Valuable Player Award for the 1998-99 season. He won the Aubrey Apple Invitational in October and took medalist honors at a seven-team Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) match hosted by Guilford in February. The lone rookie on the 1999 All-ODAC golf squad, Eversole placed second at the league championships with a three-over-par 147 to earn All-ODAC Tournament recognition. He had Guilford's low score in seven of the team's 12 events.
Coach Jack Jensen's Quakers ended their season at the ODAC Championships April 27 by finishing second to Washington and Lee by three strokes. Guilford has appeared in 13 of the last 15 national tournaments (NAIA and NCAA Division III) dating back to 1985.
