GUILFORD WINS GORDIN COLLEGIATE CLASSIC
Surfside Beach, SC (10/15/00) --
Junior Andrew Eversole (Greensboro, NC/Northwest Guilford) finished third with a one-under-par 215 over three rounds to help Guilford win the 10th Annual Wilson Gordin Collegiate Classic Golf at the Deer Track Golf Resort. The Quakers shot a 10-over-par 293 Sunday for a three-round 877, seven strokes better than second-place St. John's (MN) and eight shots ahead of Methodist. Defending Division III national champion Greensboro placed fourth.The Gordin Classic features the top Division III teams in the country and ranks among the best regular-season Division III tournaments in the country. The field is comprised of the top teams and individuals from last spring's NCAA Division III Championships and fall 2000 rankings.
"This is a real good win for us," Guilford head coach Jack Jensen said. "This is a very prestigious tournament and we're pleased to play well three days in a row."
Methodist's Chad Collins (208) took medalist honors with three subpar rounds and finished five strokes ahead of Savannah A&D's Clint Colbert (213). Guilford junior Savio Nazareth (Orlando, FL/Phillips) placed sixth individually with a one-over-par 217.
The Quakers, ranked ninth in the most recent Division III MasterCard Collegiate Golf Rankings, conclude the fall season October 30-31 in the Tom O'Briant Memorial at the Cardinal Golf and Country Club in Greensboro.
