
EMORY HOSTS ANNUAL GOLF TOURNEY AT GAINESVILLE
Atlanta, GA (04/07/00) - Emory Universitys annual intercollegiate golf tournament comes to Gainesville April 10-11. The tournament, titled Emory Invitational, takes place at the Royal Lakes Golf and Country Club.
Eighteen schools are scheduled to compete, including five national top-10 teams and nine top-25 teams according to the national NCAA Division III winter poll compiled by the Golf Coaches Association of America. Leading the way is top-ranked Methodist College (N.C.), winner of the Emory Invitational in 1994, 1995 and 1997. Defending team champion is Greensboro College (N.C.), ranked No. 2 in the nation.
The host school, Emory, is ranked seventh in the national winter poll. Other top-10 teams entered are No. 4 Skidmore College (N.Y.), the 1996 Emory Invitational champion; and No. 9 Savannah College of Art & Design (Ga.).
The tournament format is 36 holes with each team entering five golfers and counting its best four scores each day. The top five individuals will be recognized on the all-tournament team.
Tournament director is Mike Phillips, Emory golf coach. Rodger Hogan, PGA professional, is the head golf pro at Royal Lakes.
Scheduled to compete are Christopher Newport University (Va.), Emory University (Ga.), Greensboro College (N.C.), Guilford College (N.C.), LaGrange College (Ga.), McMurry University (Texas), Methodist College (N.C.), Millsaps College (Miss.), North Carolina Wesleyan College, Oglethorpe University (Ga.), Roanoke College (Va.), University of Rochester (N.Y.), Savannah College of Art & Design (Ga.), Skidmore College (N.Y.), University of the South (Tenn.), Southwestern University (Texas), Washington & Lee University (Va.).
