GUILFORD GOLFERS RANKED 20TH IN LATEST DIVISION III POLL

Greensboro, NC (12/16/99) -- Guilford College's men's golf team is ranked 20th in the December edition of the Division III MasterCard Collegiate Golf Rankings. Based on fall 1999 competition, the poll is administered by the College Golf Foundation and serves as the official rankings of the Rolex Collegiate Tour. Six-time defending national champion Methodist College placed first in the 25-team poll.

The Quakers compiled a 305.78 team stroke average in five fall events. Guilford ranked 11th among Division III squads in Golftstats' head-to-head standings through the first portion of the 1999-00 season. Guilford won a seven-team Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) round-robin tournament in Harrisonburg, VA, September 7 and placed seventh out of 21 squads the Johnny Palmer Invitational at the Old North State Club September 22-23. Sophomore Andrew Biggadike (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) led Guilford with a 75.33 stroke average through nine fall rounds.

Coach Jack Jensen's linksters narrowly missed the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament for the first time in eight seasons of Division III competition last spring. The 1989 NAIA national champions, Guilford placed fifth in the 1997 NCAA Championship field and has reached a national tournament in 18 of the past 23 seasons.

Guilford opens its spring schedule with an ODAC round-robin match February 25 at the River Ridge Country Club in Raleigh.
