
GUILFORD'S SORG NAMED ODAC DEFENSIVE FOOTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Greensboro, NC (11/05/010 -- The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) selected Guilford senior Jake Sorg (Andover, NJ/Lenape Valley Regional) as its Defensive Football Player of the Week for games of November 3. The announcement marks the first weekly honor of Sorg's career and the Quakers' first defensive prize of the season. Sophomore Marcus Ballard (Burgaw, NC/Pender) received the ODAC's Offensive Player of the Week Award for games of September 8.
Sorg,
a 5-11, 200-pound outside linebacker, led the Quakers' tacklers for the fourth
time with a season-high 11 stops, including eight solo, in Guilford's 32-23 Old
Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win at Catholic November 3. Sorg also
recorded his second interception of the season, matching a career high, and
broke up two passes. He made three tackles during Guilford's goal-line stands
that kept the Cardinals off the board on three separate trips inside the
Quakers' 10-yard line.
Sorg's seventh career double-digit tackle performance raised his season total to 56 (29 solo), which stands third on the team. He has nine tackles behind the line for scrimmage, including one sack, plus six pass breakups. Sorg enters his final college game this Saturday with 228 tackles (102 solo) and six interceptions in 39 career appearances.
Coach Mike Ketchum's Quakers (3-6, 2-3 ODAC) have won two straight games and end the season Saturday (November 10) versus ODAC rival Emory & Henry (5-4, 3-2 ODAC). Kickoff in Guilford's Armfield Athletic Center is set for 1:00 pm.
