GUILFORD'S LORD DRAFTED BY XFL'S CHICAGO ENFORCERS
Greensboro, NC (11/01/00) -- The Chicago Enforcers selected former Guilford College football standout Junior Lord (Greenwich, CT/Brunswick Academy) with the 457th selection in the inaugural XFL Player Allocation Selection System (PASS) Monday.
The Enforcers are one of eight teams in the new football league, which begins play February 3, 2001. The league is jointly owned and operated by World Wrestling Federation Entertainment, Inc. and NBC. National Football League (NFL) coaching veteran Ron Meyer coaches the Enforcers.
Lord tried out with the NFL's Green Bay Packers this summer before being released August 27, the final day of cuts. He spent last spring with the Amsterdam Admirals of the NFL Europe League (NFLEL). He played regularly as the Admirals' number-three wide receiver and made 24 catches for 247 yards in 10 games.
Prior to his stint with the Admirals, the 6-1, 197-pound wideout spent six weeks on the Pittsburgh Steelers' practice squad in 1999. He spent most of the 1998 campaign on the Washington Redskins' practice squad after signing with Washington earlier that spring.
Lord completed his college eligibility in 1997 after a brilliant four-year career at Guilford. He set 10 school records, six Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) standards and left as the Quakers' career receiving and scoring leader with 201 catches for 3,089 yards and 33 touchdowns. Lord became the second player in league history to receive first team All-ODAC honors in each of his four seasons.
A 1997 third-team Hewlett-Packard Division III All-America pick, Lord led Coach Mike Ketchum's Quakers to a school-record 8-2 season and a share of the ODAC title as a senior. Lord made a Guilford-record 64 receptions for an ODAC-record 1,094 yards and 17 touchdowns in 1997. He ranked 16th among the nation's receptions per game leaders (7.1), eighth in receiving yards per game (121.6) and 10th in scoring (12.2 ppg).
