GUILFORD'S LAMOUR NAMED TO AFCA AZTEC BOWL FOOTBALL TEAM 

Greensboro, NC (12/01/99)-- Guilford College senior football player Jimmy Lamour (Hollywood, FL/Miramar) has been selected participate in the 1999 American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Aztec Bowl December 18 in Mexico City.

Lamour is one of 40 Division III seniors from around the country picked to compete against the Mexican National Team and is Guilford's first Aztec Bowl honoree. Former Central (Iowa) College head coach Ron Schipper will coach the team for the third consecutive year.

Lamour.jpg (13502 bytes)A three-time All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) cornerback, Lamour recently completed his stellar Guilford career with a personal-best 52 tackles (25 solo) in 10 games. He led the Quakers with 13 pass deflections and four forced fumbles, both career highs. The 5-11, 185-pound senior also returned kicks for Guilford and ranked 20th among Division III kickoff return leaders with a 26.3 yards per return average in 16 attempts. He returned the school's first kickoff for a touchdown since 1996 with an 81-yard return at Bridgewater October 16. Lamour also appeared as a receiver in four contests and recorded the first two receptions of his career for 71 yards. He recently posted the second-fastest 40-yard dash time (4.43) at a free-agent tryout session for the Greensboro Prowlers of the arenafootball2 (AF2) league and defending Arena Football League (AFL) champion Albany Firebirds.

Lamour concluded his career with 143 tackles in 39 contests. He made 11 interceptions in his four years for a Guilford-record 240 yards and one touchdown. For his career he averaged more than 23 yards per kickoff return. He represented the Quakers on the first team All-ODAC squad as a sophomore after making a league-leading six interceptions. Lamour earned second team all-conference laurels in 1998 after ranking third among the league's interceptions and kickoff return leaders. He received Guilford's Best Undergraduate Male Student-Athlete Award for the 1998-99 school year.

The Aztec Bowl is the traditional season-ending game for Mexico's college football season. The game has been played 28 times since 1947 with the last two contests in 19976 and 1998 featuring the United States-Mexico matchup. Mexico faced a mixture of NCAA and NAIA college, junior college, armed forces teams and international teams in the 26 Aztec Bowls prior to 1997. In their first two Aztec Bowl meetings, the United States Division III All-Stars defeated Mexico 40-13 in 1998 in Monterrey, and 42-41 in 1997 game in Toluca, a suburb of Mexico City.

This year's game will kick off at noon CST on December 18 and will be played at Wilfrido Massieu Stadium on the campus of the Polytechnic University in Mexico City. No U.S. television is planned at this time. Results will be available on the AFCA's web site at www.afca.com.
