Returning from high-ankle sprain suffered in last year’s
season opener that curtailed the rest of his rookie year… moves from receiver
to the secondary… 2001: set a career high with four tackles at Carson-Newman
where he recovered one of his two fumbles on the year... in the Quakers' November
3 win over Catholic, made his first college interception and returned it 10
yards... made his second pick the following week in Guilford end zone to
prevent an Emory & Henry scoring drive... finished the season with 13
tackles (six solo) and one forced fumble. Personal: Bonner
Scholar at Guilford… played scholastically for Coach Grantis Bell’s Coconut
Creek H.S. team… also participated in wrestling and track… chose Guilford
over Massachusetts-Lowell and Concordia (IL)… son of Brenda Hurst and Louis
Boyd… physical education major.
