GUILFORD'S INMAN NAMED TO ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT TEAM
Greensboro, NC (05-13-99) -- Guilford College senior Jerry Inman (Asheboro, NC/Eastern Randolph) earned a spot on the 1999 GTE Academic All-District III College Division baseball team as selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The team is comprised of Division II and Division III players from Virginia to Florida who maintain a 3.20 cumulative grade point average or higher. Inman is now eligible for a spot on the GTE Academic All-America College Division baseball team to be announced June 1.
Inman enjoyed his finest season this year by hitting .337 with three home runs and 30 runs batted in, all career bests. The recipient of Guilford's 1999 George Wynne Most Improved Athlete Award, he finished second on the team and ranked among the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) leaders with 30 runs batted in. Inman had 10 multi-hit games and six contests with two or more runs batted in. The second baseman/shortstop plated a career-high five runners in a February 16 win over Bates thanks to a three-for-three effort at the plate which included a personal-best two home runs. Inman stole seven bases in eight attempts on the year and had three thefts in a March 27 win over ODAC-rival Randolph-Macon.
In the classroom, Inman graduated with high honors last Saturday and received bachelor's degrees in chemistry and mathematics with a minor in physics. He served as a college marshal and made the dean's list in at least seven of his eight semesters at Guilford. A member of the Academic All-ODAC team and Guilford Student-Athlete Honor Roll, Inman presented a research paper in November 1998 to the American Chemical Society based on his studies as a participant in the National Science Foundation-Research Experience for Undergraduates (NSF-REU) at Duke University.
Inman helped Coach Gene Baker's team to a 17-21 overall record, 6-10 in the ODAC. He is one of eight graduating seniors from this year's club. Guilford returns 17 letter winners back in 2000.
