GUILFORD'S MOORE NAMED ODAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Greensboro, NC (3/08/00) The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) selected Guilford College senior Kevin Moore (Colfax, NC/Southwest Guilford) as its Baseball Player of the Week for the week ending March 7. The announcement marks Moore's third career reception of the honor.
Moore, an outfielder, hit .533 (24-45) with 21 runs
batted in and 19 runs scored in the Quakers' first 14 games. He had three hits, including
a pair of homers in a loss to Ferrum and went 3-for-5 with four runs batted in against
Southern Virginia.
Moore broke Stephen Foulks' '91 career runs batted in record and now has 134 RBI in 132 career games. He needs two hits to break Foulks' career hits mark of 161 and is four runs shy of the Quakers career runs record of 118, shared by Bron Thompson and Barry Whitlock. With his team-leading fifth double of the season against Washington and Jefferson, Moore tied former teammate Toshinori Sakamoto's '99 school record for career two-baggers (34). He is three home runs shy of Donnie Redmon's career homers record of 34.
Coach Gene Baker's Quakers has won four games in a row and raised their record to 9-5 overall. Guilford visits Southern Virginia this Friday before playing its first Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contests at Washington and Lee the following day.
