Campus Policy Proposal Tutorial
1. First and before anything else, conduct extensive research! Gather as much information from as many sources as you can. Why should the policy be changed? What needs to be done?
2. Fill out a Proposal Template completely and thoroughly. You cannot be too specific. The more information and details that you have, the easier the process will be.
You can find the Proposal Template for Campus Policies - Here
3. Email your proposal to senate@guilford.edu by 2:00pm on the Sunday before the next Senate meeting.
4. Your proposal will be reviewed at the next Steering meeting (held Sunday's at 2:30pm). Steering will email you back with questions and suggestions to help improve your proposal before it referring it to either ICC, SCC, SRC, or full Senate (see committee section for more information).
5. If referred to full Senate:
5a. Email your revised proposal back to senate@guilford.edu by the following Wednesday at 5:00pm.
5b. Your proposal will now be heard by the full Senate. At the first Wednesday meeting you will be given five minutes to outline your proposal and answer clarifying questions. Your proposal will then be shelved until the following week, giving the Senators time to talk with their constituencies and gather information.
5c. At the next meeting, Senate will deliberate on your proposal and have the option of coming to consensus. A decision won't be made until it has received the support of the full Senate.
