Guilford College Art Gallery and the Department of Art are sponsoring an exhibition of professional quality art by alumni January 12 through February 25. Alumni were invited to submit up to three pieces of art for entry in the exhibition. The work was juried by members of the Art Department faculty, and Terry Hammond 81, director and curator of the art gallery, and Kate Fritzson 09, student intern. More than sixty alumni artists, with class years ranging from 1944 through 2005, submitted work for the exhibition in a wide variety of media, including painting, printmaking, drawing, ceramics, collage, photography, sculpture, and mixed media. A reception for the alumni artists will be held February 23 at 5:30p.m. in the main gallery, Hege Library. The public is invited to attend and there is no charge for admission. At 6:00 p.m. there will be a special performance in the library atrium by BOOM!box (Mark Dixon '96, Jonathan Henderson '05 and friends). In conjunction with the exhibition, the 3rd Alumni Art Exchange will begin Friday, February 23 at 9:15 a.m. in the Bryan Jr. Auditorium with a keynote presentation, Linking Art & Community, by Jennifer McInnes Coolidge, 87, executive director of The Museum of Florida Art in Deland, FL. This will be followed by a question and answer session as well as panel & round table discussions, work shops, and professional practices for artists for the next two days that will address topics such as Advanced Education and Graduate School Opportunities, Teaching & Art Education, Blacksmithing, and many many more.
