On behalf of the Board of Trustees, the Presidential Search Committee has selected the Witt/Kieffer executive search firm of Oak Brook, Ill., to support Guilford’s presidential search. Witt/Kieffer has a dedicated higher education team and extensive experience in presidential searches at liberal arts colleges.
Witt/Kieffer’s impressive track record includes an 8-year average tenure for their presidential placements. Forty-three percent of all their placements in 2012 were women and minorities. Their agreement includes a three-year guarantee for presidential placements.
Katherine (Kate) Haley, Ph.D, will be Guilford’s lead consultant. She supported the Earlham College presidential search two years ago as well as numerous other presidential searches. Prior to joining Witt/Kieffer, she was president of Gettysburg College and Whittier College. Along with Guilford, Earlham and Whittier are members of the Friends Association for Higher Education (FAHE). Haley was chair of the Annapolis Group (presidents’ professional organization of liberal arts colleges).
Lucy Leske, managing partner of Witt/Kieffer’s higher education team, will be Haley’s partner in the search. They are very enthusiastic about the Guilford search, according to Carole Bruce, trustee and chair of the Presidential Search Committee.
Leske will visit Guilford Oct. 8 and Haley Oct. 10-11 to begin campus research in order to understand the College and be able to communicate with and recruit the best candidates for Guilford’s next president. During their times on campus, they will meet with the Search Committee, President Chabotar and senior staff, Clerk”s Committee, trustees and possibly some student groups.
