A year ago, the Guilford College Alumni Board offered a challenge gift for the Annual Funds, agreeing to a dollar-for-dollar match up to $25,000 for gifts by alumni who had never given or had not given in five years.
The challenge ended June 30, and the results are in: Gifts from 171 qualifying alumni totaled $34,069.
“Alumni Association Board members typically haven’t done much fundraising among their classmates,” said Katherine Helms Cummings ’83, who was president of the board during the challenge.
“In addition to supporting our alma mater, we had a great time getting back in touch with old friends. We are really appreciative of all the alums who made this effort a success.”
The Annual Funds provide vital support for academics, athletics and campus life. Furthermore, the percentage of alumni who give is a factor in college rankings, which influence enrollment, and in grant-making decisions by foundations and corporations.
