Woody Gibson ’70 of High Point, N.C., was appointed headmaster and director of athletics at Oak Ridge Military Academy in July 2012 after a 37-year career at High Point University. Woody was an associate professor in HPU’s Phillips School of Business and was involved in other areas of the university. In addition to serving as director of athletics, he was the men’s soccer coach, men’s golf coach, women’s soccer coach and sports information director. In 1995, he implemented a sport management undergraduate degree and assisted in the creation of the master’s degree program in sport studies. He was inducted into the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame as a soccer coach in 2011 and the Guilford County Sports Hall of Fame in 2012. He served in the U.S. Army, including a tour of duty in Vietnam.

Donald L. Tuttle ’72 of Yorba Linda, Calif., has been appointed president of Lancer Orthodontics, Inc., in Vista. Don has three decades of experience in the dental industry with significant roles in management, operations, sales and marketing. He served as president of Specialty Products for Sybron Dental Specialties, president of Ormco and Sybron Implant Solutions, president of DentalView, vice president of sales and marketing for Ormco, and director of sales for SDS Metrex.

Linda Lee Willis ’72 of Rocky Mount, N.C., a physician at Nash General Hospital, retired in December 2012.

Joseph Austin ’75 of Greensboro announced that his son Josh and fiancée welcomed a daughter in August 2012.

Stan Hawkins ’75 of Floyd, Va., is happy to announce that his daughter was married in June 2012.

Margaret Ann Boozer Patton ’75 of Greensboro is an administrative assistant at UNCG in the Lloyd International Honors College. She is mother of two children, ages 13 and 15.

Alison Winfree Pickrell ’75 and husband Brian of Statesville, N.C., have embarked on the journey of self-publication. They created Wolf Pup Publishing and have published their first novel, The Restless Spirit, which is about the divine restlessness in each of us that leads us first away from God and then back into His arms.

Steven Taylor ’75 and wife Jean of Greensboro announce the birth of their granddaughter Amelia Ruth Taylor DeWeese born March 2, 2013 to daughter Sarah Love Taylor and husband David DeWeese.

Margaret Brown ’76 is living in the Adirondacks working as a hospice clinical manager.

Tony Blakeley ’77 of Mocksville, N.C., has recovered from brain cancer.

Valerie Blackburn Smith ’78 is living in Hendersonville, N.C., and maintains her private practice, Counseling for Growth and Healing, LLC. Her son Ian is in the Honors College at Appalachian State University.

H. Hall Powell ’78 of Kure Beach, N.C., is self-employed and semi-retired as a consultant.
