The '40s

James ’40 and Frances Lloyd ’42 Wall of Tobaccoville, N.C., celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in August 2012. The couple was married by Guilford President Clyde A. Milner on Aug. 5, 1942. James later was shipped overseas where he flew 35 missions as a navigator on a B-17. He and Frances have three children, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Frances Neece Bordelon ’43 of Metairie, La., writes that she has had a successful career in the field of social service. She coordinated farming at Sleighton Farm School for Girls in Pennsylvania; worked with the Girl Scouts as a leader and training field advisor; worked with the Volunteer & Information Agency (United Way); served as executive director with Westminster Towers, subsidized housing for seniors; and served as assistant director/ coordinator of Programs and Services. “I appreciate what Guilford gave me.”
