The Board of Trustees named a 15-member search committee, which is supported by the Witt/Kieffer executive search firm of Oak Brook, Ill.
Trustee Carole Bruce is chairing the search committee, which will screen applicants and recommend finalists to the board in the spring semester. The committee includes trustees, faculty, staff, students, alumni and volunteer board leaders. Carole is a partner at Smith Moore Leatherwood law firm in Greensboro and has served on the board since 2005. She is the chair of the finance committee.
“The selection of a president is probably the most important decision any board of trustees makes,” she said.
She and other committee members have made presentations on the search to trustees, the Board of Visitors, the Alumni Board and College employees. Candidate nominations have been solicited from all constituencies.
The faculty, the Alumni Board and Black Alumni group have all developed statements describing qualities needed in the next president. Kent is retiring June 30 after 12 years on the job.
Updates are available on the presidential search page of the College website.
