Advocate for children Margaret Bourdeaux Arbuckle and student leader Chelsey Wilson ’13 received the 2013 Algernon Sydney Sullivan Awards.
Margaret was the executive director of the nonprofit Guilford Education Alliance from 2005 until this fall. She is a longtime children’s advocate who has worked during the past eight years to increase business and community support for Guilford County Schools. She and her husband have served on the Guilford College Board of Visitors.
Chelsey, who majored in sport management with minors in dance and nonprofit management, worked tirelessly in support of the Guilford campus Food Pantry, Stop Hunger Now and other food insecurity projects. In addition to serving the hungry, her work provided opportunities for her fellow students to be active, involved agents of change.
Established in 1925, the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Awards are given at dozens of colleges in the South in memory of a Virginia native who practiced law in New York and was known for his compassion. They are sponsored by the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Foundation.
