Older Degree Options - for students enrolling prior to May 2006

This information represents the geology degrees as formulated under Guilford's revised curriculum in 1998.  These majors were revised in February, 2006.  Students who were enrolled at Guilford during or before the 2005-06 academic year may graduate under these requirements, or they may follow the new requirements at their discretion.  To see the new requirements, please click here.

Guilford offers three degrees in geology. The Bachelor of Science degree focuses on geology as a professional discipline and is oriented toward graduate study.  The Bachelor of Arts degree permits greater freedom in choosing a broad range of introductory science courses for those interested in earth science teaching, museum science, writing in the natural sciences or professional careers in other fields such as law, business or environmental studies.  The Earth Studies degree offers a less intensive introduction to geologic study, and is often pursued by those combining geology with another major such as environmental studies or education studies.  Click here for more details:

The requirements for each degree are listed below, and you can get a copy of this table in Excel format by clicking here.  White boxes indicate required courses; shaded boxes are not required.
