Professor
Tremain Hatch has been my student in a number of classes, and we have worked together on a research project, mapping wineries in Yadkin County. Trey is also my teaching assistant this semester in a new course I am teaching called "Terroir: the Science of Wine". In classes, Trey is well-known around the Geology Department for his hard work and helpful attitude. He has an integral role in making our department into a true learning community--he works here practically all day long, whenever he's not in classes or volunteering. He works very well with other students and is always willing to help. He also just has an incredibly sunny nature and good attitude.
In the field with me and as my teaching assistant, Trey has been amazingly helpful. Honestly, I could not have taught the new class this semester without him. He is always available when I need him, and quite able to produce stellar work on his own, without direct guidance. For instance, one day I was quite ill, and would have had to cancel lab, but Trey was able to step in and teach it on his own. Often he's down in the lab helping one group of students while I work with others two floors away. I can't tell you how many students have commented on what a wonderful teaching assistant Trey is. In addition to his obvious skills in the lab, they remark on his positive and encouraging attitude toward them. Overall, Trey has been a great person to have around the department, and I will be sorry to see him go.

If there were two things I would want people to know about Tremain Hatch, is that he is an exhaustive hard worker and possesses a deep kindness for people. I have had the pleasure to share a house with Tremain, and I have seen how on a day to day basis he drives himself to do good works, be it in the classroom, volunteering or in his personal relationships. This intensity is most evident in examining his work week. Tremain may pay rent at our house but you won’t often find him there. This is just a testament at how much he is doing for himself and his ultimate goals, and for other people. As his friend I have experienced the depth of his caring. It is amazing to see Tremain interact with children, he is patient and above all he is fun. I am consistently impressed with Tremain’s humanity and work ethic.
