Much of my time this semester has been filled with planning and organizing Guilford College's first annual Model UN conference. My peers and I have gone to extraordinary lenghts to make this happen. We have been largerly driven by our own enthusiam for this project and have had very little faculty help. It makes me very proud to know that I am part of this team that mobilized to bring a Model UN conference to Guilford College campus.

Interest

Much of the work I engage in outside of the classroom and am passionate about involves social change. My experience at Guilford has been instrumental and inspirational in becoming aware of the world. There is a need in me to work towards building a healthy multi-cultural society. Much of what I've been involved in thus far has in one way or the other is a reflection of that goal. It is evident in my work with the Latino Community. I hope that my work is not insular and that through it I'm helping build connection among communities and not further isolating them.

Activities

Two things I really enjoy are cooking and riding my bicycle. Below is a recipe for the first turkey I ever roasted on my own.  I’d always wanted to make a turkey but the task seemed daunting, but I was determined. When I returned from winter break my senior year in college I was determined to make a turkey. So, I rallied my housemates, told them I was going to make a turkey and that they should plan side dishes around that.  When the day came we decided to extend an invitation to all of our friends and make the event a potluck. I was worried that I was going to fall on my face, but the turkey was a hit and it was quite delicious. The potluck was also a fun event that brought our friends together. The following is the recipe I used from Cooking Light Magazine.

My senior year was also a time I discovered that I enjoy bike riding. Thanks to the enthusiasm of my housemates I have used my bike as an everyday means of transportation. I commute to school and the grocery store, sometimes my friends and I decide to go out to eat and instead of driving we bike there. It is very amusing to see the faces of drivers are incredulous that we are on the road. But "share the road" signs are there for a reason.
