Joshua's first impression of Guilford was of a beautiful, historic, friendly and laid-back campus combined with a sense of academic rigor. Attending Guilford is a bit of a family legacy for Joshua, who is from Archdale, N.C. His mother, sister and aunt all attended Guilford. Joshua chose Guilford because of the small class size, the Quaker heritage, the good political science department and the personal attention from professors. He also liked that Guilford did not have any fraternities or sororities.
He likes the way that Quaker values and testimonies guide curriculum and decisions. Outside of class, Joshua is on Guilford's Ultimate Frisbee team. The team had the opportunity to go to a tournament in Savannah, Ga., over spring break. Joshua's best class at Guilford so far has been Rights in Conflict, a political science course. He says he liked the class because it was "writing-intensive, had no busy work and everyday in class we debated the touchiest issues in American politics."
Joshua is a double major in political science and environmental studies. After graduating from Guilford, he plans to attend graduate school to earn his doctorate and work for the USAID doing environmental advising for foreign countries.
