"Don't do something because you don't think you're going to be perfect in it on the first try."

For years, I have always wanted to go to medical school and have had a fascination with human biology. I became interested in Forensics a few years ago. I have also always wanted to learn more about. I hope to attend medical school and become a forensic pathologist or an epidemiologist.

Guilford has given me confidence in so many areas that I never though I had. For example, I always thought I wasn't good at explaining items to people, but as I started tutoring for the ASC, I found that I was helping and getting through to people, and that my help was enabling them to succeed. My professors encourage us to think through problems before going to them, which has allowed me to trust my own judgment in many situations. Years ago, I stopped dancing since I thought I wasn't good enough or looked like what a dancer should be, but now I started again, and am now concentrating in it, and realized that you don't have to look a certain way or be what other people want you to be. When meeting new people, Guilford has reiterated that you can't judge on stereotypes alone, since people aren't cookie-cutter here, everyone is different in their own way.

The Quaker values at Guilford play an important part in my life. I believe in need for respect for all people regardless of background and through that diversity is the way people can learn from different viewpoints, allowing one to see the world in a different way. Through serving the community, we can start a good cycle that could continue one way past us. My career plans also incorporate service to people in one form or another.

Since I've been at Guilford, I've developed some of the deepest friendships I've ever had with some amazing people. I'd had great professors that will still talk to you after the class is over for the semester, and are always willing to work with you to help you succeed in classes. I also love the atmosphere of Guilford, the laid-back, community feeling that I didn't get at other schools.
