PLEASE READ THE HOUSING INFORMATION CAREFULLY AND FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR SPRING 2010!!

CAMPUS HOUSING:

  • The online housing application is available on November 1st , 2009.  Go to: www.guilford.edu/housing (Residence Life Forms), read the instructions and complete the Online Housing Application in Bannerweb. There are step by step instructions on that web page to assist you.
  • Once you have submitted your housing application, immediately go into “My Housing” in Bannerweb to choose your meal plan. Students living in a traditional hall are required to participate in a meal plan. If you are trying for an apartment next semester, but aren't granted one, you will be assigned the Quaker Max meal plan as default unless you have already selected another plan (the 10 meal plan is the minimum plan for upper class students living in a traditional residence hall).
  • The deadline to submit the online housing application for returning/readmitted students is December 15, 2009. Late applications will not receive any priority or seniority as assignments are made. Availability of spaces is also limited.
  • The deadline for First Year and Transfer students to submit the online housing application is December 15th, 2009. Late applications will not receive any priority as housing assignments are made and housing is not guaranteed after the deadline.
  • Housing choices are extremely limited between fall and spring semester, therefore, assignments are made based on what becomes available after the fall semester. For upper class students credit hours are taken into consideration, so those with more credit hours will have seniority if your application is done by the December 15th deadline. Applications received after the deadline will have less priority.  (If you are new, you will have less priority after the December 15th deadline.) When choosing your housing preferences, make sure you have different choices If you don't list any preferences, then you will placed wherever space is available.  Because of limited availability, we cannot guarantee you will get any of your preferences. Hall class level requirements:
                      • Only juniors and seniors may request an apartment spot in addition to Bryan, Shore, Mary Hobbs and English.
                      • Sophomores are eligible for Bryan, Shore, Mary Hobbs and English
                      • First year students are eligible for Binford, Milner, English and Shore
                      • Theme houses except for the Pope House (sub-free) are by invitation only (upper class students only)
  • Students who have holds placed on their student accounts will not be assigned housing until the holds are cleared.  Please check in Bannerweb to see if you have any holds and take care of them prior to the deadlines.
  • The housing selection process for Spring 2010 is not a lottery process where students self-select rooms. Housing assignments will be handled through the Residence Life Office. In "My Housing" please ignore the statement, "You are not set to participate in any upcoming room selection processes." That statement is for the lottery use only.
  • Room assignments will be made the first week of January. It is necessary for us to wait that long to ensure we are utilizing all available spaces. As a consequence, you will not be billed for room and board until you are housed. However, we suggest you take a look at the room and board rates to estimate what your payment will be. ROOM AND BOARD RATES
  • ROOM/ROOMMATE REQUESTS: If you desire a specific roommate, you will need to type in a name on your Personal Preferences page on the Housing Application or in My Housing on the line that requests for you to type in Roommate Requests. If there is a specific room that you want to request, there is also a line to type this information in. You will still need to complete the Living Preference section where you list your housing preferences in order. This is different than fall housing selection because it is not a lottery.
  • SPECIFIC ROOMS CANNOT BE HELD OR SAVED FOR STUDENTS RETURNING IN THE SPRING. WE WILL TAKE YOUR REQUEST INTO CONSIDERATION IF INDICATED ON YOUR HOUSING APPLICATION, BUT WE CANNOT GUARANTEE PLACEMENT IN ANY PARTICULAR ROOM.

MEAL PLANS:

  • A MEAL PLAN is required of all residential students in the traditional halls (Bryan, English, Shore, Mary Hobbs, Binford and Milner), so please make sure you have selected either the Quaker Max (19 meals),  Quaker Cash (14 meals per week + $175) plans or the reduced cost Quaker Ten Plan (10 meals per week + $175 for sophomores and above).
  • First Year students may only select from the 19 or 14 meal plans.
  • Students selected for the theme houses or the apartments are not required to participate in the college meal plan, but are still required to select the “Meal Plan Exempt” in the “My Dining” options if they do not want a meal plan.
  • If you do not receive housing in the apartments or theme houses and selected the “Alternative meal plan” (5 meals per week) or “Meal Plan Exempt”, you will automatically be given the Quaker Max meal plan.  You will have until the end of the first week of class to make any meal plan changes for the spring semester.
  • Please choose your meal plan carefully. Requests for meal plan changes after the first week of classes will be denied.

THEME HOUSES:

  • If you are a returning student pre-approved for one of the theme houses, please indicate which house and room on the roommate preference line on the Room Preferences page in “My Housing”.
  • The Pope House is the designated substance-free house and is open to any upper class student based on availability.

SINGLE ROOM APPLICATIONS are due December 15th for spring semester.  Single rooms in the traditional halls are reserved for those who have special medical or academic needs and must be approved for a special accommodation under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).  With limited available housing, even those approved for a single based on ADA reasons may still receive a single in the apartments if none of the traditional rooms are available. If you have previously submitted the ADA Disclosure Form and supporting official documentation regarding a single room accommodation and have had approval for prior semesters, you will only need to submit the Single Room Application Form and indicate on the form that we should have documentation on file. If you have not made a disclosure, go to: http://www.guilford.edu/ada.

The application form is available on the website at www.guilford.edu/housing.  Complete the Single Room Application Form, the ADA Disclosure form and submit them along with supporting documentation to the Residence Life Office. You may mail or fax the application to 336-316-2949 or cut and paste it into an email. You will be notified via email once the ADA Committee meets and renders a decision. (It could take several weeks.)

OFF-CAMPUS APPLICATIONS

STUDENTS CURRENTLY HOUSED ON CAMPUS FOR THE FALL SEMESTER ARE NOT ELIGIBLE TO APPLY FOR OFF CAMPUS FOR THE SPRING 2010 SEMESTER.

All Off Campus Applications must be completed online through Bannerweb. You go to the same page as the "Access Housing Application" and "Access MyHousing" and select the "Access Off Campus Application." Please keep in mind that you can only apply for one thing in Bannerweb-either campus housing or the off campus application. If you are unable to access the online application because you are abroad, please contact the Residence Life office at reslife@guilford.edu or 336-316-2105.

For Spring semester 2010: The online off campus application will be available starting November 1, 2009. The deadline to submit the off campus application is December 15, 2009. Off campus applications received after the deadline are subject to the 25% reduction of merit aid if approved.

Click here for step by step instructions for submitting the Off Campus Application in Banner Web

If you apply based on medical, psychological or learning disability reasons, you must complete the ADA Disclosure form and provide supporting documentation.  Your application will be reviewed by the ADA committee and will be granted if off campus housing is a reasonable accommodation.  You may be asked to provide additional documentation as outlined in the Guilford College Student Handbook under the Americans with Disabilities Act: Disclosure and Request for Reasonable Accommodation(s) which is found on the website at www.guilford.edu/ada.  If you are applying for off campus based on financial hardship, you will need to contact your Financial Aid Counselor. If they support your need to be off campus, Residence Life will need it in writing from your counselor.

Off Campus approval is not automatic or guaranteed. Very few of the applications received between semesters will be approved. You will be notified via email of the decision and it may take several weeks before you hear back from the Residence Life Office. Do not sign any leases unless you are approved.
