Housing Updates

4/28/2008

Didn't Get Housed? - Now that room selection week is over, students who did their housing application by the March 28th deadline, but were unable to select a room will be housed next according to the available remaining spaces throughout the month of May. Assignments will be made in lottery number order over the next several weeks. Students who have a lottery number will be housed, but we cannot guarantee where that placement will be.

Students who missed the housing application deadline but completed a housing application, will be placed on a waiting list for fall housing. If space becomes available, assignments will be made based on the order housing applications were received. Placement is not guaranteed, so students may apply for off-campus housing, but they may be subject to the 25% reduction in merit aid.

As stated in the Housing Policies, students who have not completed the housing application or off campus application will be billed for housing until one of these requirements has been met.

"STUDENT DOES NOT EXIST": If you have recently been experiencing difficulty adding roommates (i.e., "student does not exist"), it is because that student has not completed the minimum class registration requirement of 8 credit hours. That block has been temporarily removed for now, so you should be able to add them. However, it is critical that each student registers for the 8 minimum credit hours by April 16th to participate in the room selection period. If they don't, you won't be able to select your room and your room will be selected for you after April 19th by Residence Life.

Roommate Selection Problems: If you have selected a roommate or roommates and the system tells you that the "student is ineligible", there may be several different reasons.

1. If your roommate has a HOLD on their account. Holds take 24 hours to clear in the Housing software because information is downloaded once a day from Banner. During room selection week, we will download information several times a day.

2. Your roommate has not done the online housing application.

3. Your roommate is not included in the lottery pool because the system does not recognize them as a current student. If the "ineligible student" is unable to select a roommate at all, that student should contact Kris Gray at www.guilford.edu or 336-316-2105.

Housing application deadline approaching: If you intend to participate in the housing lottery, make sure you complete your online housing application no later than March 28th. Online housing application received after midnight will not be included in the lottery pool and those applicants will be ineligible to select a room during room selection week (April 16-19). You have until April 15th to select roommates and choose hall preferences.
