1.  How to Win the Housing Lottery and Changes for 2009-2010

This is an overview of the entire housing selection process including information about important dates, the Lottery, Room and Roommate Selection, Theme Housing, Off-Campus and Single Room Housing, Substance-Free, Proxy forms, Study Abroad, Meal Plans and many other components. It is essential for you to read all of this information carefully and familiarize yourself with the processes, policies and housing options available to you.  All currently enrolled traditional students expecting housing on-campus for fall 2009 are required to complete the on-line housing application whether they participate in the lottery or not.  Students desiring to apply for off campus living should carefully read the Off-Campus Housing Application procedures located within this housing information.

There are several changes this year to the housing lottery this year.  The “housing lottery” will determine the order in which students can select their on campus residences and allow for those students to select their own room.   ALL currently enrolled traditional students who expect campus housing must complete the online housing application available March 1-27, 2009. If students apply by the housing deadline, they are eligible to participate in the lottery room selection week as long as there are no holds on their account and they have registered for a minimum of 8 credit hours for the fall 2009 semester. If students apply for housing after the deadline, they will be placed by Residence Life at a later time.  The new order of the lottery will be as follows:

  • Rising sophomores will be given first choice in the lottery.  However, the apartments, both north and south, will not be an option for sophomores when choosing living arrangements.  Rising juniors and seniors MAY NOT pull in rising sophomores.
  • Rising sophomores can choose from any of:  Mary Hobbs, English, Shore or Bryan halls.  All traditional halls will require that students have one roommate picked out (and that they have preferenced each other on both students’ applications).  Bryan Hall will remain a choice by room, not by suite.
  • After rising sophomores, super seniors, rising seniors and finally, rising juniors will have the opportunity to choose their housing.

OTHER CHANGES FOR FALL 2009

  • SQUATTER’S RIGHTS:  In order to ensure that upperclassmen have access to traditional and single sex halls, in English, Shore and Mary Hobbs Halls “squatters rights” (meaning students who live in any of these halls during the Spring 2009 semester may choose to remain in that hall for the 09-10 academic year) will be observed for those rising sophomores, juniors and seniors who wish to remain.  Your current roommate does not have to remain for you to “squat” in the room.  Students must still complete the housing application by the stated deadline, and may indicate to Campus Life that they wish to remain in their current hall or in their current room. (see section 8)
  • The Off Campus Application will now be done online in Banner Web.  Students will have to choose between the Housing Application and the Off Campus Application and will not be permitted to submit both applications.

2. What is the Housing Lottery/Selection and How Does It Work?

Lottery numbers are given to each housing applicant and are used to select student rooms.  For the lottery, each class will be separated by earned credit hours from the fall 2008 semester (non-graduating seniors, rising seniors, rising juniors and rising sophomores) and each student will receive a lottery number and selection time that has been randomly assigned within their class/credit hour standing. (The credit hours do not include spring 2009.) The lower the lottery number you receive, the better opportunity you have to select a room of your choosing from the available room inventory.

Class groupings:

  • Super-Seniors currently with 88+ credit hours as of December 31, 2008 who are not graduating in May (including transfer credits)
  • Rising seniors currently with 56-87  earned credits as of December 31, 2008 (including transfer credits)
  • Rising juniors currently with 24-55 earned credits as of December 31, 2008 (including transfer credits)
  • Rising sophomores currently with 0-23 earned credits as of December 31, 2008 (including transfer credits)

On Wednesday, April 3rd, you will receive a lottery number and selection time.  The lottery number and your selection time will appear in “My Housing” in Banner Web.

To participate in the housing lottery selection week for fall 2009 semester:

  • Complete the on-line application in Banner Web between March 1st and no later than  11:59pm, March 27th (see Application Instructions). You must be currently enrolled as a traditional rising sophomore, junior or senior.
  • You have registered for a minimum of 8 credit hours for the fall 2009 semester by room selection week (April 15th-18th).
  • You have NO holds on your student account including, but not limited to: judicial, parking, library and accounts receivable (over $500). Check Banner Web for any holds on your account.
  • You must be under the age of 23 at the beginning of the fall 2009 semester. You must have a designated roommate for a double room and 3 designated roommates for an apartment before your selection time. All roommates must “match.”

Students who do not apply for on-campus or off-campus housing by the spring deadline (March 20, 2009 for off campus housing, March 27, 2009 for on campus housing) will be billed for housing in June, but are not guaranteed housing; their accounts may be credited later if housing is not available for the fall, but their merit based aid will be reduced by 25%.  These students will have to find housing off-campus on their own if there is no space available on campus.

You won't receive a lottery number if any of the following apply:

  • You did not complete the online housing application in Banner Web by 11:59pm, March 27th deadline;
  • You have been accepted to live in a theme house (online housing application still required);
  • You are a member of the Residence Life staff [and their apartment mates] (online housing application still required);
  • You are a CCE student;
  • You are approved to live off-campus;
  • You will not be taking classes on campus during the fall 2009 Semester (study abroad, leave of absence, etc.).

3.  Class Pre-registration Requirement

You must apply for housing or for off-campus prior to class registration (April 6-13) to be able to register for classes. You must also register for fall 2009 classes by April 13th to be eligible to participate in the lottery selection week.  You are required to have a minimum of 8 credit hours to select a room during lottery week.  If you have concerns about meeting the minimum credit hour requirement, you will need to contact the Residence Life office prior to your lottery selection time.

4.  Housing Contract

When completing your online housing application, you will have to agree to the terms of the college’s housing contract for the 2009-2010 academic year.  You may read the contract online at www.guilford.edu/housing.

5.  Do I Need a Roommate to be in the Lottery?

Yes, you do!  Please keep in mind, to participate in lottery selection week, students can only choose roommates or apartment mates from the people who have completed the online housing application and who are eligible to participate in the lottery.  You may complete your application by the deadline, but if you do not have a roommate or do not have a group for an apartment, you will be ineligible for the lottery selection week and you will be assigned a room by Residence Life after the lottery.  For the traditional halls, you may only select a double room during the lottery room selection period if you have named a roommate.  For the apartments, you must select three other people to make a group of four.

To select roommates, go to My Housing, click on the Room Selection on the Navigation bar on the left side of the Overview page, then click on Roommate Selection. The application will ask for a roommate’s or apartment mates’ names.  It is imperative that first and last names are listed on each of the group member’s individual online applications.  If the roommates listed are not completed on each of the roommates’ applications, the matches will not be made and you won’t be able to select a room or apartment.  (See Apartment Section for more information.)  Any potential roommates must “MATCH” in Banner Web to use as a roommate during room selection.

Once you have selected your potential roommates, they will be listed in “My Housing” in Banner Web.  You may switch your roommate preferences in “My Housing” up until your room selection time.  It is up to you to make sure your roommates are also eligible for room selection week.  It will state in “My Housing” if your roommates are not eligible to select a room.  This happens when a student has a HOLD placed on their account or they haven't completed the online housing application.  Either you need to make sure your potential roommate clears any holds, or you need to have a back-up plan.

Residence Life STRONGLY recommends you have a back-up plan in case one of your roommates backs out or is ineligible for room selection.

6.  How to Find a Roommate

Residence Life understands that even the best laid plans may fall through.  If you are unsuccessful at finding a roommate, or completing your group, you will not be able to participate in the lottery.  If you are unable to select a room because you do not have a roommate, and you did your housing application by the deadline, Residence Life will house you the week following the lottery selection week from the spaces remaining.  Keep in mind, you may not get any of your room preferences and will be housed where there is space.  If we are unable to do so because the College ran out of space, you will be housed as soon as space opens up and prior to students who apply for housing after March 27th.  Residence Life is not responsible for finding you a roommate for the lottery.

Do you really want to be part of the housing lottery, but you don’t have a roommate?  Or, does your group not have enough to fill an apartment?  What are you going to do?  Residence Life has created a discussion forum for you in Lotus Notes to help you find each other. Go to: “Find a Roommate” at https://notesdb.guilford.edu/findaroomate.nsf

7.  Lottery Number Distribution

Lottery numbers are randomly assigned within each class grouping as such (The credit hours do not include spring 2009.):

  • Super Seniors currently with 88+ credit hours: numbers start at 1,000
  • Rising seniors currently with 56-87: numbers start at 2,000
  • Rising juniors currently with 24-55:  numbers start at 3,000
  • Rising sophomores currently with 0-23:  numbers start at 1

Each group of numbers is based on the size of each class.  The super senior group may only have 50 students within their group, so the numbers they are assigned may only go from 1 to 50.  Rising seniors may have 150 in their class group, so their lottery numbers may go from 2,001 to 2,150 and so on.  The number of rooms available in any residence hall or apartment building is finite.  Residence Life cannot accommodate everyone’s first, and possibly second, housing preference.  Seniors and other upper-class students have been given priority.  Sophomores will eventually get their spots into their preferential housing as they earn more credit hours.

8.  Squatter’s Rights

For the first time, Guilford College is introducing "Squatter's Rights", which means upper class students living in traditional halls will have the opportunity to select their current room or hall in the housing lottery prior to the general room selection times. First year students living in Binford and Milner are not eligible to participate in the squatter's lottery; however, first year students who currently live in Shore or English Halls will be allowed to squat their room or hall.   Your current roommate does not have to remain for you to “squat” in the room.  Students must still complete the housing application by the stated deadline, and may indicate to Campus Life that they wish to remain in their current hall or in their current room.

When completing the online housing application, students who would like to squat their room or hall will need to indicate on their application their desire to participate. The deadline to inform Residence Life that a student wants to squat is April 10th. Under the Personal Preference headings in both the application and in My Housing, students will select the options of same hall or same room. If a student selects same room, Residence Life will review the request and if the student is eligible, then Residence Life will place that student in the room on April 12th prior to Housing Selection Week (April 14-18) and prior to the squatter's lottery. Students will be able to see their assignment in My Housing. If a student just wants to remain in the same hall but not the same room, then they will be grouped with other students in the squatter lottery on April 14th. On April 14th from 9:00am until 10:00pm, the squatters may select their rooms on a first come, first serve basis. There is no guarantee that you will get the exact room you want, but you will still be in the same hall.

9.  Lottery Selection Week

Selection week is scheduled for April 15th through April 18th.  The beauty of this system is that you won’t have to fight crowds as long as you have access to a computer with internet access, your Banner G# and your PIN number.  The general selection times are as follows:

  • Wednesday, April 15th                          5:30 pm – 9:30 pm
  • Thursday, April 16th                              5:30 pm – 9:30 pm
  • Friday, April 17th                                    5:30 pm – 9:30 pm
  • Saturday, April 18th                               5:30 pm – 9:30 pm

Everyone who has received a lottery number will be scheduled sometime within these dates and times. If you miss your particular time, you can still go into “My Housing” to select a room after your designated time.  You will have until Saturday, April 18th at 9:30 pm to select a room before the lottery shuts down.  Lottery number times are about one minute apart. However, delaying your selection after your designated time may prevent you from getting the room you want because others will have beaten you to it!

10.  Residence Halls

The online housing application will allow currently enrolled or returning traiditonal students to select from the following housing options:

  • Bryan Hall: co-ed by suite (4 room suites with a shared bathroom), each room in a suite is available to 2 students
  • English Hall:  all male residence hall (double rooms)
  • Mary Hobbs:  all female residence hall (double rooms and ADA approved single rooms)
  • Shore Hall:  all female residence hall (double rooms and one triple room)
  • Apartments North: 4 person suite with one shared bathroom (can be co-ed or single gender) [For juniors and seniors only]
  • Apartments South: 4 person suite with two bathrooms (can be co-ed or single gender) [For juniors and seniors only]
  • Theme Houses:  co-ed housing for pre-approved groups (double and single rooms)
  • The Pope House:  substance free housing and co-ed by room (double rooms, one triple room and ADA single rooms)

11.  Campus Housing Application Instructions (March 1-27)

Read all the information first and pay attention to deadlines.  Do you fit all the eligibility requirements?  If so, then proceed:

  1. For step by step instructions with pictures, click here.
  2. Your Guilford (G #) student ID number and your PIN number are required to access Banner Web.
  3. Once you have logged in to Banner Web using your user ID and PIN, click on Student & Financial Information, click on Housing, and then click on “Access Housing Application.”
  4. Read the Housing Contract and if you agree, then click on “Agree” and move on to the application.  You must agree with the Housing Contract or else you cannot move forward with the application.
  5. Once you have completed your preferences and submitted your application, go back into Housing in Banner Web and go to the "Access My Housing" section to complete your room and roommate preferences. There should be a gray navigation bar on the left side of your "My Housing" Overview page to choose room preferences. Choose at least 3 or 4 different hall preferences in ranking order.  If you do not get your first preference or do not get to make a room selection, it is imperative you have alternate choices so you may be housed accordingly.  If you do not give alternate locations, you will be housed anywhere there is an opening.
  6. Select a meal plan.  On the Overview page in “My Housing” click on “Dining Plans” on the gray navigation bar on the left hand side of the page. Select the meal plan that best suits your needs.  (See Section 21- Room and Board Rates for meal plan requirements).
  7. Once you have submitted your application and need to make any changes to room, roommate, personal or dining preferences go to "My Housing" which will allow you to make changes until you are housed. Once you have been housed, you may not make any more changes.

12.  Steps to Select a Room at Your Lottery Selection Time (April 15-18)

You should log on a few minutes ahead of your selection time so you are ready.  At lottery selection time:

  1. Please note:  only the student with the lowest lottery number selects for the entire grouping (2 for double rooms and 4 for apartments) as long as all are “MATCHED.”  If all are matched, once the one person selects a room, the other matched students will be automatically assigned to a space within the room or apartment. Log into Banner Web and then click on Student & Financial Information, click on Housing, and then click on My Housing.
  2. You should be on “My Housing Overview” page.  There should be a gray navigation bar on the left side of your My Housing Overview page to make room selections.
  3. Click on Room Selection to proceed to the Online Room Selection page. Make your room selection. Check My Housing Overview page to make sure your room selection is there.
  4. You will receive no further confirmation from Residence Life if you have selected your room correctly.   You may see your room and roommate assignment on the Overview page in My Housing.

13.  Proxy Information for Students Abroad Spring 2009

Students who are on study abroad programs during the spring 2009 term may participate in the lottery.  These students may receive a better lottery number than their potential roommate(s).  If the student abroad (with the better lottery number)  is unable make a room selection because of time differences, etc., then the student abroad may give his/her roommate the authority to select the room.  Only the student with the lowest lottery number and earliest lottery time will need to select housing for his/her group via the online housing selection system. Online housing selection proxy forms are used when a student abroad cannot select housing for his/her group at the appointed time.  Once a completed proxy form is submitted, the lottery time will be "transferred" to the proxy so that he/she can select housing for the roommate or group.  After this switch is made, the student abroad who had the lowest lottery number will no longer be responsible for carrying the group through the online housing selection process.  So that the appropriate changes can be made in our system in a timely manner, please adhere to an April 13th deadline to submit completed online housing selection proxy forms to Residence Life.  The form is available online at www.guilford.edu/housing or in the Residence Life office.

14.  Study Abroad, Readmitted Students and Students Returning from a Leave of Absence

Students who plan to study abroad for the fall 2009 semester, or take a Leave of Absence for the fall 2009 SEMESTER, DO NOT participate in the housing selection process for fall 2009.  THESE STUDENTS WILL BE CONTACTED VIA EMAIL IN NOVEMBER ABOUT SPRING 2010 HOUSING.

Students currently on a Guilford study abroad program for spring 2009 who expect on campus housing need to complete the housing process as scheduled, just like students who are currently residing on campus.  Students currently studying abroad, or on a leave of absence, must complete their online housing application by the March 27th deadline and must not have any holds.  If you are eligible for the lottery, you will receive a lottery number and time.  You will follow the same instructions as students who are on campus.

If you receive a lottery number and time, the selection time is according to the software, which will be US Eastern Daylight Savings Time.  If you are unable to make your exact time, you can still select a room anytime after your assigned selection time until Saturday, April 18th at 9:30 pm DST, however, you have reduced your chance of getting what you want.  (You may want to use the Proxy Form, see Proxy Information.)

Study abroad students and readmitted students who desire to live off-campus need to complete the online Off-Campus Application (including those who have previously lived off-campus) by the March 20th deadline.  Please keep in mind you have a choice to make – either the online off campus application or the online housing application.  You can not do both.  Students readmitted after the off campus application deadline (March 20th) are not subject to the 25% reduction in aid. Study abroad students are subject to the same deadlines as all currently enrolled students.

Students on a leave of absence who plan to return to campus housing for the fall will need to be readmitted by March 27th to participate in the housing lottery. Readmitted students who qualify for the housing lottery should follow the same instructions for study abroad students.  Students who are readmitted after the March 27th lottery deadline will not participate in the lottery, but must still complete the online housing application if housing placement is expected.  They will be housed during the summer and notified of their housing assignment by mid-July.

 15.  Single Room Applications and Small Single Rooms

The Single Room Application is a separate paper process and students applying for a single room are still required to complete the online housing application in Banner Web by March 27th, in addition to the single room application.

Single Room Applications are due by March 20, 2009.  Due to the increased demand for campus housing, the small single rooms in the traditional residence halls (Milner, Bryan, English and Mary Hobbs) and the substance free house will only be available to students seeking single room accommodations based on medical, psychological, or learning disabilities (ADA).  Students with special needs are required to complete and submit a Disabilities Disclosure Form along with current supporting documentation from a qualified professional in accordance with the Guilford College Student Handbook under the “Americans with Disabilities Act: Disclosure and Request for Reasonable Accommodations (ADA).”  Even if you apply under the ADA, the committee will approve only those on a critical need basis.  Students who currently have singles based on ADA reasons may not need to submit new supporting documentation, but will still need to submit a new single room application for the 2009-2010 academic year by the March 20th deadline.

Single Room Applications are available in the Office for Campus Life and on the website at www.guilford.edu/housing.  You will be notified by email if you are approved for a single room.  You will receive a lottery number; however, you will not participate in the lottery selection week.  Residence Life will assign your rooms separately from the main lottery according to your lottery number after the selection week.  However, if an approved student desires an apartment room instead of a designated small single room in the traditional halls, and they are part of a complete group, they can go through the lottery process.  Residence Life does not guarantee they will get an apartment room.  If the student does not get an apartment room from the lottery, they can still get one of the small single rooms.  Students desiring a single room not based on any of the special needs mentioned above are encouraged to try for one of the apartment spaces.

16.  Student Apartments

  • The only students eligible for the North or South Apartments during the lottery are rising juniors, rising seniors and super seniors.  Freshmen and rising sophomores will be blocked from the apartments in the housing lottery.
  • If you want to sign up for an apartment for the lottery, the student with the lowest lottery number and earliest selection time in the group will make the selection and will bring the other lottery number holders in with them.  It will not matter what the remaining group’s lottery numbers are.
  • To choose an apartment during room selection, you must completely fill those 4 room spaces.  If you do not have at least 4 eligible students students, you will not be permitted to select an apartment.
  • Follow the instructions on the steps to select a room (section 12)
  • All the names for a particular apartment grouping need to be included on each group member’s housing application form under roommate preferences.
  • An apartment requires a total of 4 people (co-ed or single gender).
  • You will need a contingency plan in place if you are not able to select an apartment.
  • If a vacancy occurs in a room during the summer, Residence Life will assign you a roommate.
  • The group is responsible for maintaining communication between them regarding changes to their room/apartment occupancy. Residence Life will NOT notify you of a vacancy should any occur after room selection.

17.  Bryan Hall

Bryan Hall no longer accommodates groups of eight only who want to be grouped together.  This will allow maximum space usage for Bryan, and will allow for smaller groupings of 2, 4, or 6 a chance of being together.  This means if there is an even number of students wanting a suite together, they will need to look at the lowest lottery number for each grouping and select each room in a suite individually.  Residence Life cannot guarantee whole groupings of more than 2 will get into a suite together.

For example:  Joe, Bill, Walter and David want to be in the same suite.  Joe’s lottery number is 1003, Bill’s is 1027, Walter’s is 1001 and David’s is 1138.  Joe and Bill want to be roommates and Walter and David want to be roommates.  Joe will select Bryan suite D211 for himself and Bill, and Walter will select Bryan suite D212 for himself and David as long as there is space available in the suite.

 18.  Theme Houses

Theme House proposals are due by 5:00 pm, March 14, 2009.  Information about the criteria for house proposals for 2009-2010 is available online - click here or at www.guilford.edu/housing .  Three houses (Cobb, Pines and Campbell) are available for the fall.  The Pope House will be designated as "substance free/healthy living" and will be listed with the traditional halls during room selection and anyone desiring to live with other substance free students may sign up for the Pope House during room selection.

Any group of students who submits a proposal for one of the Theme Houses must also complete the separate online housing application for returning students at www.guilford.edu/housing by the 27th deadline.  Students approved for the Theme Houses do not participate in the lottery selection.    However, all members of the group must have completed the online housing application by the housing application deadline on March 27th. If an online housing application is not completed within a group by the 27th deadline, that individual may be ineligible for the house.  There is no guarantee that spot will be available later.  Residence Life reserves the right to house students in rooms that are not fully occupied.

Minimum qualifications for living in a house include a GPA of 2.2 or above and good judicial standing at the time of application. Large single rooms are not available in the houses, only small singles, doubles and two triples are available.  Small single rooms in the theme houses do not require ADA approval.  Approved theme houses will be notified by March 20th.

19.  Off Campus Applications

Please Note: Students currently living off-campus are required to reapply for off-campus every academic year.

Online Off Campus Application is available in Banner Web starting on February 10th, 2009. Guilford is a residential campus; therefore, only a certain number of students are granted permission to live off campus each year. Each application is reviewed on an individual basis, but not everyone who applies is approved. Although there is no set criteria, seniors and then juniors are preferenced over sophomores and freshmen. Unless a freshmen or sophomore will live with a parent or guardian, has a financial hardship supported by Student Financial Services, or an approved ADA accommodation, it is not likely they will be approved to live off campus.

NEW ONLINE OFF CAMPUS APPLICATION: All Off Campus Applications must be completed online through Banner Web instead of doing the paper application. You go to the same page as the Access Housing Application and Access MyHousing and select the Access Off Campus Application. Please keep in mind that you can only apply for one thing in Banner Web-either campus housing application or off campus application. Click here for step by step instructions. You will be informed of Residence Life's decision regarding your off campus application prior to the online housing application deadline. If you are unable to access the online application because you are abroad, please contact the Residence Life office at reslife@guilford.edu or 336-316-2105.

Currently enrolled students that apply for off campus by the March 20th deadline are not subject to the 25% merit aid reduction if approved for off campus living. If your online off campus application is denied, your off campus application will be become void. You will still have time to apply online for on campus housing before the March 27th deadline.

If a student is approved for off-campus, Residence Life will assume that student will move off campus and will not be billed for room and board. The approved student should not do the online housing application. However, if an approved student decides not to move off-campus, they must notify Residence Life immediately of their intention to remain in campus housing no later than March 27th, then apply online for campus housing by the March 27th deadline if they want to participate in the housing lottery. In addition, if a student is approved for off campus, decides to participate in the lottery, and then decides to move off campus again after the lottery for any reason, that students off campus application will be placed on the bottom of the waiting list and approval is not guaranteed. If re-approved, that student will receive the 25% reduction in merit aid. This 25% reduction in aid applies to any currently enrolled student who applies or reapplies after March 20th and is approved to move off campus.

 20. Substance Free Living

The Pope House is designated as the substance free living area for upper-class students. Only students who truly desire to live in an environment free of alcohol, tobacco or any other substances should select the Pope House. Students who violate the substance free agreement will be removed from the substance free area immediately and relocated to another room at the sole discretion of Residence Life. If you desire to live in the Pope House, you should list it as your first preference under room preferences (Upper Class-Substance Free) in the Room Selection in Banner Web. There is not a separate housing application for the Pope House and space is limited. Note: College alcohol, drug and smoking policies apply campus-wide as designated in the Guilford College Student Handbook.

 21.  Room and Board Rates*

All residential students assigned to a traditional residence hall is required to participate in one of the three meal plans offered by the college.  Please choose your meal plan through Banner Web in “My Housing” prior to room selection.  Please note:  If a student is not eligible for the meal plan option they selected or did not choose a meal plan, Residence Life will assign the Quaker MAX.  Commuting students are not eligible for a meal plan.

Apartment residents, theme house residents and those who are exempted based on medical reasons are not required to choose a meal plan.  Apartment or house residents may choose from any of the 4 meal plan options if they desire.  To complete the online application process, please choose from one of the following plans:

  • Quaker MAX:  19 meals per wk; no “Grill Cash” (all students eligible)
  • Quaker 14: 14 meals per wk./$175 “Grill Cash” per semester (all students eligible)
  • Quaker 10 : 10 meals per wk./$175 “Grill Cash” per semester  (sophomores, juniors and seniors eligible)

“Grill Cash” can only be used in the Founders Hall Grill located on the bottom floor of Founders Hall near the Bookstore. It may not be used in the Bookstore or at off campus locations and it is not transferable to the Quaker Card.

Optional for Apartment and Theme House residents only:

  • Quaker Alternative Plan:  5 meals per week.  The Quaker Alternative Plan is a reduced cost plan and is available only to upper class residents living in the Theme Houses and the Student Apartments.

Meal plan exemptions are rarely granted; the process and forms are available at www.guilford.edu/housing.  Meal exemptions are reviewed at the beginning of each semester. Students are expected to pay all room and board charges when due.  If a meal exemption is approved, students will be reimbursed.
