Student Life

Students come to Guilford College for a transformational experience. Influenced by a Quaker heritage, our welcoming, engaged community encourages you to explore who you are and who you want to become. Immersed in an atmosphere of personal integrity, respect for others and plenty of independence, our students enjoy the opportunity to grow individual strengths, responsibilities and resources, and to gain a sense of direction.

In our small and vibrant community it’s easy to develop life-long friendships (both with students and faculty), pursue academic achievements, the arts, athletics, campus jobs, club activities, community service, and participate in student government.

Our students enjoy a modern fitness center, 20 varsity teams, numerous club sports and intramural teams, 40 student organizations and a rich cultural community offering frequent art exhibits, concerts, recitals and theatre productions.

Wherever you go on campus, you’ll see the influence of The Office of Student Leadership and Engagement (OSLE), the hub of our community life. OSLE supports many of the gems of student life, including the student-run radio station WQFS, The Guilfordian newspaper, and Founders Hall Information Desk. OSLE is Guilford’s main resource for student leadership development and social engagement, connecting students with involvement opportunities based on your interests and talents. It organizes seasonal, late night and weekend events, numerous club sports and intramural teams.

The Campus Activities Board (CAB), is the student-run programming board within OSLE, providing cultural, social and educational events for Guilford students’ enjoyment and enrichment. Among these programs are Open Mic Night, games, poetry forums, music and live performances.

Other treasures of campus life include the Bryan Series, the Eastern Music Festival, Homecoming, the Coming Out Ball, the Gender Bend, Serendipity and the Greenleaf Coffee House Co-op. And if you need to get away from all the action, the Hut, a cozy cottage in the center of campus, provides an indoor respite for students seeking quiet conversation, a cup of tea, and morning and evening meditation time.

The Community Senate represents the collective voice for traditional students in the governance of Guilford College within OSLE, acts as the umbrella organization for all student organizations, and develops and reviews College policies.

Off campus you’ll find many recreational and cultural opportunities in historic, college-rich Greensboro. The inter-campus bus system provides free links to neighboring colleges including UNC Greensboro, Greensboro College, N.C. A & T University and Guilford Technical Community College (GTCC).

Nearby are a host of other colleges and universities. In fact, within an hour’s drive of Guilford you’ll reach almost all of North Carolina’s major cities, Winston-Salem, Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill. Charlotte is less than two hours away.
