Multicultural Programs

At Guilford, exploring and celebrating the many facets of diversity and multiculturalism is encouraged and enriched through the Multicultural Educational Department (MED) and the Multicultural Resource Center (MRC), located in King Hall. Offered here is support and a variety of clubs, resources, workshops and trainings designed to create awareness and to build bridges on campus and throughout the greater Greensboro community. Students are invited to become aware of issues and active in cultivating understanding and harmony.

Check out the multicultural programs, which are the foundation of the department:

  • The Africana Community offers leadership and mentoring support to students of African descent and hosts events that inspire the Guilford community regarding issues of diversity and equality.
  • The Latino Community provides academic, professional and personal support and guidance to Latino/a students; works to create a vibrant and welcoming environment; and hosts events such as the Latino Film Series to educate the Guilford community about culture and history.
  • The Native American Community offers support and a social network for Native American students at Guilford, hosts events throughout the year to celebrate Native American heritage and educate the community, and provides leadership opportunities.
  • The Bayard Rustin Center for LGBTQA Activism, Awareness and Reconciliation provides a safe gathering place for queer students and their allies, maintains an extensive library about related issues, and holds meetings and special events and programs for the Guilford community.
  • The Multicultural Leadership Scholars (MLSP) which consists of 10 scholars who are committed to anti-racist, multicultural issues. These scholars serve for an academic year by working in a programming area, receiving specialized training, and identifying and responding to the needs of Guilford’s multicultural student body.

The Multicultural Student Groups include:

  • Blacks Unifying Society (BUS)
  • Hispanos Unidos de Guilford
  • Many Voices
  • American Indian Student Circle
  • Pride

The MED supports the Guilford College Anti-Racism Team to uphold our community’s strategic priority of being institutionally diverse and anti-racist.

Embracing diversity is a core value of the Guilford community. Multicultural awareness efforts reflect our community’s commitment to increasing the success of our diverse student body and ensure that faculty, staff and other members of the community are equipped with the knowledge, skills and capabilities to build bridges and address all forms of prejudice and discrimination.
