Max Carter to Appear on TLC Aug. 13
Max Carter, director of Friends Center, talked to TLC for an upcoming episode of its show “Who Do You Think You Are?”
The episode, which airs at 9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, features actress and musician Zooey Deschanel, whose father’s ancestors were active Friends. Max, who is also campus ministry coordinator, spoke about Quakerism of that era.
He also helped explain certain “Quaker language” used in the monthly meeting minutes that mentioned Zooey’s ancestors. “It was more of a conversation than an ‘interview,’ as Zooey looked over old historical documents,” Max said.
Zooey “searches for rumored abolitionists in her father’s Quaker family background,” according to the episode description TLC website. “Her journey takes her around Pennsylvania where she uncovers, and follows, the story of a remarkable ancestor who sacrificed everything for her beliefs.”
Each hour-long episode of “Who Do You Think You Are?” features a different celebrity uncovering mysteries about his or her ancestral roots.
