Robert Malekoff Comments on Role of College Sports
Associate Professor of Sport Studies Robert Malekoff talked to Greensboro-based CBS affiliate WFMY about athletics at universities.
“Some people say that athletics is the front porch of the university,” Robert told the station for a July 22 story. “It can be extraordinarily positive, or it can be extraordinarily negative, depending on how people behave and what the issues are.
“I think, in the last decade or so, there has been more pressure on universities to deal directly with issues of misbehavior by students.”
Robert is serving on a panel that is examining the balance of athletics and academics at UNC-Chapel Hill following two years of athletics-related scandals. He has worked with colleges and universities nationwide to keep academics, athletics and student life in harmony.
