Bill Bradley, Jeb Bush Replace Caroline Kennedy in Bryan Series
Guilford’s Bryan Series will present former U.S. Sen. Bill Bradley and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush in a bi-partisan conversation about politics and current issues Thursday, March 28. The program will be moderated by Gwen Ifill, moderator of Washington Week on PBS.
The event will be at 7:30 p.m. at War Memorial Auditorium, replacing a presentation by Caroline Kennedy, who cancelled her appearance due to another professional obligation. This year’s series is sold out on a subscription basis, and tickets for the original event will be honored. If any tickets are unused by subscribers or the College, they will be put on sale approximately two weeks before the event.
“We are very pleased to host two national leaders discussing how to reduce partisan gridlock and solve America’s problems,” said Ty Buckner, associate vice president for communications & marketing. “Following the recent election campaign and battle over the fiscal cliff, people are looking for answers, and Senator Bradley and Governor Bush will offer their ideas in this bi-partisan conversation.”
Bradley served in the U.S. Senate from 1979-97. He ran for the Democratic nomination for president in 2000, was an Olympic gold medalist, two-time NBA champion, Rhodes Scholar and merchant banker. He has authored six New York Times best sellers on the revitalization of American politics, culture and the economy including his latest book—We Can All Do Better (May 2012).
Bush, a Republican, served as governor of Florida from 1999-2007. He led transformation efforts on issues of education, healthcare and immigration, and managed the crisis response to eight hurricanes that hit Florida during his time in office. He is often mentioned as a possible presidential candidate in 2016 and is the son and brother of former presidents.
Ifill has interviewed newsmakers and reported on issues ranging from foreign affairs to politics on PBS news programs since 1999, and she has a long and distinguished career as a broadcast and print journalist. She moderated the 2004 and 2008 vice presidential debates.
The next program in the Bryan Series is Sunday, Feb. 10, with children’s advocate Geoffrey Canada. More information is available at bryanseries.guilford.edu.
