Cate Schurz ’13 Headed to UK as Pulitzer Center Student Fellow

Catherine “Cate” Schurz ’13, World and Nation section editor of The Guilfordian, has been named a student fellow by the Pulitzer Center for Crisis Reporting.

The center will sponsor Cate’s trip to the United Kingdom during January Term to do original reporting on the murder conviction of Gary Dobson, a topic Cate proposed. Gary was sentenced last year to life in a UK prison for a 1987 killing despite having earlier been found innocent.

Cate is the College’s second Pulitzer Center fellow, following Keyla Beebe in the 2011-12 academic year.

In April, Guilford will host the third Pulitzer Center visitor in the past year, science journalist and radio and web producer Dan Grossman, for discussions and a presentation on climate change. A video about Dan and his work is available on YouTube. Details about his visit will be announced early in the spring semester.
