Gabby Oglesby Named a Preseason All-American
Basketball standout Gabby Oglesby ’14 has earned 2012-13 D3hoops.com Preseason Second Team All-America recognition. The website made its annual selections based on the previous season’s All-America and All-Region teams.
The Quakers open their season at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, when they host cross-town rival Greensboro College in the Ragan-Brown Field House.
Gabby, a 6-0 forward, was a 2011-12 Women’s D-III News Fourth Team All-American and garnered D3hoops.com First Team All-South honors after helping Guilford to its first Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) title in 10 years. She also collected the ODAC’s 2011-12 Player of the Year Award and was named Most Outstanding Player of the 2012 ODAC Tournament.
She led the Quakers in scoring (14.7 ppg), rebounding (7.9 rpg), field-goal percentage (.514) and blocked shots (2.3 bpg) in 2011-12. She also had a team-high six double-doubles and led the ODAC in blocks.
Gabby enters her junior season with a school-record 127 blocked shots. She also holds the Guilford standards for blocks in a game (7, vs. Randolph-Macon, Jan. 6, 2012) and season (68, 2011-12).
Coach Stephanie Flamini’s squad is coming off a 22-7 season (16-4 ODAC) that ended with the Quakers’ third NCAA Division III Tournament appearance, their first since 2002. Guilford is ranked 11th in the 2012-13 Women’s D-III News Preseason Top 25 Poll and also received votes in two other national polls.
