J-Term Deadline Pushed to Nov. 19
The deadline for January Term registration has been moved from Nov. 2 to Nov. 19.
The change was made to coincide with regular registration for spring courses, according to Professor of Theatre Studies and Director of Study Abroad Jack Zerbe.
“We realized that advisors would have to meet with their students twice, but this way we can kill two birds with one stone,” he said.
The January Term also will now include non-credit prep classes for the GRE, LSAT and GMAT.
Registration for January Term continues to grow with 52 students registered for study abroad and study away programs, and 37 enrolled in on-campus seminars. These numbers do not include students who will be doing internships, independent studies or service projects during the term.
The original goal for January Term enrollment is 150 students, according to Jack.
“We’re not where we had hoped to be in terms of enrollment, but we’re not far off,” he said. “There’s been a pretty steady flow of students since break. We’ll come close to meeting our goal.
Some aspects have already exceeded his personal targets.
“We’re far beyond my hopes for study abroad and study away,” he said. “I had hoped to have 50 applications at this point, but to have 52 people actually going is great. And they’ll bring that energy back to campus.”
With enrollment steadily increasing, Jack is optimistic about the pilot term.
“It’s a miracle that less than a year ago we decided that this is something we want to have at Guilford. Here we are 10 months later in the middle of a launch. Things like this usually take a lot longer.
“This happened because the willingness of faculty and staff to step up and do extra, on top of their already full plates.”
