NYT Reviews Alumna’s Exhibition
The New York Times has reviewed an exhibition of works by Alex Gingrow ’01. “Alex Gingrow specializes in nipping the hand that feeds her as well as others that don’t, and she does so with considerable deadpan wit,” the review begins.
The exhibition at the Mike Weiss Gallery in New York features “snippets of sordid conversations” overheard by Alex while she worked in a frame shop, according to the gallery’s description. The unattributed quotes come from art world insiders, ranging from the famous to those in entry-level jobs.
The review ends with this observation: “Ms. Gingrow follows a one-liner formula, but the cumulative effect is interesting for the satirical light it shines on art world sociology. Each piece could be a short story.”
