Celebrate Founders Day Aug. 20
Join the Founders Day celebration in the newly renovated Founders Hall 1-3 p.m. Monday, Aug. 20. The event will include a ribbon-cutting, remarks by students and President Kent Chabotar, and a Founders Hall open house.
The renovation of Founders to create an open, attractive and welcoming student center is one of the key goals of the Advancing Excellence campaign.
The project created an atrium lobby and student organization center on the first floor, and expanded student art display space and repositioned Campus Life offices and WQFS on the second floor. On the lower level, the Grill was enlarged and an aquarium was installed.
The project is entirely funded with gifts, including a $2 million gift from the McMichael Family Foundation and a $900,000 real estate gift from Ed and Vivien Bauman.
Renovations to Founders are part of more than $30 million of capital improvements on campus since 2002, most dedicated to enhancing housing and student life. In the summer of 2004, a terrace and gazebo were added to the front of the building and improvements were made to the mechanical infrastructure.
In the summer of 2010, nearly $1 million in renovations were made to the lower level of Founders, including the addition of dining options. The College bookstore was relocated and expanded with a new, separate space for textbook sales.
