Early College Celebrates 10th Anniversary June 22-23

The Early College at Guilford – the first Early College in North Carolina – will celebrate its 10th anniversary with several events Friday and Saturday, June 22-23:

Reception
6-9 p.m. Friday, June 22 • Carnegie Room, Hege Library

Join ECG alums from all 10 graduating classes, ECG faculty and principals (past and present), and Guilford faculty for conversation and yummy hors d’oeuvres. Ultimate Frisbee by moonlight will follow, if there is interest.

Where I Am Now and How ECG Influenced My Path
10 a.m.-noon Saturday, June 23 • King Hall

Volunteers will share (5-10 minutes each) about their current lives and ways in which ECG impacted their life and career decisions. Nominate alums you want to hear from or contact them directly and ask them to share their stories

Celebration Picnic
11:30 a.m.-2 p.m., June 23 • Guilford Quad

Join current and former students, staff, administrators and faculty for food and festivities — an open mike for alums and current students, storytelling by Tony, and basketball with Charles at 3 p.m. In the event of rain, the event will move to the library’s Carnegie Room.

The Friday reception and the Saturday picnic each cost $20 per adult to attend and require registration in advance. For more information, please contact Kathy Adams at kadams@guilford.edu or 316-2010, or Gail Webster at gwebster@guilford.edu or 316-2486.

“The Early College at Guilford has been successful in many ways beyond our original vision,” said Kathy, the Charles A. Dana Professor of Psychology. “The school fits with our mission of lifelong learning and brings additional diversity to the campus. Guilford’s classrooms are enriched by the young students who in turn benefit from the challenging education Guilford faculty offer.

“ECG is an example of a win-win collaboration between the College and Guilford County Schools and the school has received recognition for the excellent job it does educating students in both high school and college classes. It has been so rewarding to watch the school as it has transformed from a creative idea to a successful reality.”
