Guilford, Greensboro College Partner with Special Olympics

Athletes from Guilford, Greensboro College and the Special Olympics will team up for an afternoon of inclusive sports 1-4 p.m. Saturday, April 28.

“Sports have taught me the value of teamwork and friendship,” said Meredith Foscue ’14, a Guilford volleyball player and one of the event organizers. “I’m looking forward to forming new bonds with the Special Olympics athletes.”

Hosted by the Guilford College Student Athlete Advisory Committee, the Sport Expo and Unity Cup will welcome athletes from the Greensboro-High Point sector of the Special Olympics. It is the second Special Olympics event at Guilford College this academic year, and reflects the partnership between NCAA Division III and the Special Olympics.

For the event’s first two hours, Special Olympians will move from station to station, learning about football, flag football, kickball and volleyball. At 3 p.m., Special Olympians and members of the men’s soccer teams from the two colleges will play together, with the Unity Cup going to the winning team.
