“Women, War and Peace” Film Series Has Showings Feb. 21, March 13 & 20, April 3
Amal Khoury’s Gender and Conflict class (Peace and Conflict Studies 250) is presenting a film series entitled “Women, War and Peace” on five Tuesday evenings this semester through April 3.
Programs will be from 6-8 p.m. in the multipurpose room of the Community Center and are open to the campus community. Students from the class will introduce the films and lead the discussion afterwards. The programs are co-sponsored by Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies.
Khoury was a panelist for the “Women, War and Peace” program at Guilford in September that was televised by UNC-TV.
The film series opened with “I Came to Testify” Feb. 7. It is the moving story of how a group of 16 women who had been imprisoned by Serb-led forces in the Bosnian town of Foca broke history’s great silence and stepped forward to take the witness stand in an international court of law. It is narrated by Matt Damon.
“Pray the Devil Back to Hell” will be presented Feb. 21, “Peace Unveiled” March 13, “The War we are Living” March 20 and “War Redefined” April 3.
More information about the series is available at PBS.
