Homecoming, Taking Place Oct. 5-8, Focuses on Community Building
Guilford’s 2011 Homecoming takes place Oct. 5-8 and includes over 30 events open to alumni, students, faculty, staff and friends, focusing on the College’s core value of building and celebrating community.
This year’s Homecoming includes reunions of former Bonner Scholars as the program celebrates its 20th anniversary; graduates of the science and mathematics divisions; alumni involved in the BUS, BSIB and AACS student organizations; and the members of the 1991 ODAC Football Championship Team.
All members of the Guilford community are invited to take part in annual events including the Harvey Ljung Golf Tournament at the Bryan Park Player’s Course, the Bill Rogers Tennis Tournament and a 5K run through campus.
The Friends Historical Collection will also collect oral history interviews with former residents of Mary Hobbs Hall, Guilford’s oldest residence hall, and with people who have memories of the College’s integration in 1962.
Other highlights of the weekend will include the 14th Annual Sheridan A. Simon Distinguished Alumni Lecture, the Golden Circle Brunch, a Stop Hunger Now! Packing party, the Annual Street Festival and Solarpalooza, and Tailgate 2011 outside of Armfield Athletic Center. Quaker athletics teams have home games in football, men’s and women’s soccer, and women’s volleyball.
