Business Management Department Seeking Accreditation by ACBSP by 2013

In late June, the Business Management Department was accepted into candidacy for accreditation by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).

Recognized by the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), the ACBSP is a specialized accreditation association in business education, “supporting, celebrating, and rewarding teaching excellence.” Its stated focus is on teaching and learning (acknowledging the importance of scholarship in its role to facilitate and improve teaching); and its mission is continuous improvement.

More than 1,000 college and university campuses are members of ACBSP, including 157 international locations, and more than half of these have received accreditation.

In 2011-12, Guilford will prepare and submit a preliminary questionnaire and, with the assistance of ACBSP, will develop an action plan to “close any identified gaps” in order to meet the standards for accreditation.

Subject to the approval of the ACBSP, during the 2012-13 academic year, the College will prepare a self study and an external evaluation team will conduct a site visit during the spring 2013 semester.

According to this timetable, the ACBSP Board of Commissioners would be expected to make a final decision about the Guilford Business Management Department’s accreditation in late April 2013.
