Reunion 2011 to Take Place May 20-22
Alumni from class years ending in one or six and members of the Guilford’s Golden Circle will return to campus May 20-22 for Reunion 2011, a weekend of family-friendly activities and fellowship. Many of the scheduled events are open to faculty, staff and their families as well.
The weekend includes the annual Alumni Convocation on Friday, May 20, at 6 p.m. in Sternberger Auditorium. The Class of 1961 will be inducted into the Golden Circle and four alumni award recipients will be recognized by the Guilford College Alumni Association. They are:
• Young Alumni Award: James Edward Tatum ’03
• Charles C. Hendricks Distinguished Service Award: Max L. Carter
• Alumni Excellence Award: Carole F. Hunter ’63
• Alumni Excellence Award: John H. “Jack” Reynolds ’65
A reception will follow the convocation. The 50th Anniversary and Golden Circle Dinner will take place at 7 p.m. in Founders Hall.
Saturday afternoon features “Not So Serendipitous,” a lakeside gathering featuring music by Andrew Eversole ’02, comedy by Brad Aldous ’93, Carolina barbecue, mini-motorboat racing and games. The event takes place at the Guilford Lake from 12:30-2 p.m.
On Saturday night, the Kidz Zone Pajama Party will entertain children ages 4 through 12 with a bounce house, dance party, movie, pizza and dessert. (Pajamas are optional.) The party, from 6-11 p.m. in Sternberger Auditorium, is also open to children of Guilford faculty and staff who are not participating in Reunion activities, at a cost of $15 per child.
The weekend concludes with Guilford College Day at the Greensboro Grasshoppers minor league baseball game vs. Hagerstown at NewBridge Bank Park in downtown Greensboro. All alumni, students, faculty, staff and families may purchase tickets in a special Guilford-only section for the 4 p.m. game. Other activities throughout the weekend include Back to School Lecture Series with talks by faculty members President Kent Chabotar, Max Carter, Heather Hayton, Dave MacInnes, Eric Mortensen and Kathryn Shields; tours of campus focused on campus history, sustainability and the Underhround Railroad; reunion and class dinners; and Meeting for Worship in Remembrance of Classmates.
