Guilford Competes at the Great American Cross Country Festival

CARY, N.C.(10/2./09) – Freshman Richard Rogers set the Guilford College eight-kilometer record at the Great American Cross Country Festival at the Wake Med Soccer Park Friday. Rogers completed the course in 27 minutes, 20 seconds, nearly six seconds faster than the previous mark set by Noah Mace in 2006.

Rogers helped Guilford place 12th among 13 teams at the race, which featured nine NCAA Division I teams. Duke University captured the team title.

Other Guilford times were as follows: Andre Arguimbau (29:00), Tyler Brown (29:02), Palmer Hicks (29:25), Luke Musselwhite (29:51), and Jon Meade (29:53).

The Quakers’ women placed 14th among 14 teams, nine of whom were Division I schools. Linnea Saby paced Guilford with a time of 22:49 over the five-kilometer course. Other Guilford times were as follows: Tessy Omina (23:05), Morgan Freyer (25:06), Ariel Lang (27:50), and Dana Small (29:19).

Both Guilford teams return to action Oct. 17 when they host the Guilford College Invitational on The Meadows Course on campus.
