GUILFORD PICKED SEVENTH IN ODAC MEN'S AND WOMEN'S CROSS-COUNTRY POLLS
SALEM, VA
(8/17/05) -- Defending men's and women's Old Dominion Athletic Conference
(ODAC) cross-country champion Washington and Lee has been picked to repeat in
2005 in a vote take by the league's head coaches.
On the men's side, the Generals received seven of
a possible nine first-place votes and a total of 78 points to take the top-spot.
W&L will be paced this season by 2004 ODAC Runner-of-the-Year Nathan Johnson.
Washington and Lee also sits atop the women's poll after garnering seven of a
possible eight first-place votes and a total of 63 points. Back for the Generals
this season will be 2004 ODAC Runner and Freshman-of-the-Year Lindsay Erickson.
Guilford head coach Scott Smith
starts his second season with seven letter-winners returning from last year's
squads. The loss of Smith's top men's and women's runner presents a new
challenge. However, Jeremy Bante has been tabbed as the team's captain
for the 2005 season and looks to pick up where he left off last year. He
will be complemented by Keri Stodolski the top returning runner
for the women's squad.
The Quakers open the
season at the Mountaineer Open hosted by Appalachian State on September 2.
Guilford's first of four home contests will take place September 24 at Hagan
Stone Park. This year's ODAC Cross-Country Championship will also be
hosted by Guilford at Hagan Stone Park on October 29.
