GUILFORD'S HENNINGER WINS WEEKLY ODAC CROSS COUNTRY PRIZE
Greensboro,
NC (10/17/05) -- The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) selected
Guilford College junior Laurie Henninger as its Women's Cross Country
Runner of the Week Monday. She is Guilford's first recipient of the cross
country award this season and the second Quakers' runner to win the prize in the
program's two-year history.
Henninger placed 16th among 61 runners at the North Carolina Collegiate Cross Country Championships Oct. 15 at Hagan Stone Park in Pleasant Garden, NC. She completed the six-kilometer course in 28:09.2, the fastest time among Guilford's six runners. Her time ranked ninth among point-scoring competitors, which earned her all-state recognition, and helped Guilford place fourth among eight scoring teams. Henninger is Guilford's first all-state cross country runner and has had Guilford's best time in all six competitions this season, despite lacking prior competitive running experience before this year.
Coach Scott Smith's Quakers return to action Oct. 29 when they host the ODAC Championships at Hagan Stone Park. The men's race begins at 10:00 a.m., followed by the women's race at 11:00 a.m.
