Guilford's Routon Earns Academic Tennis Honor

Hillary RoutonGreensboro, N.C. (8/11/06) -- Guilford College rising sophomore Hilary Routon received 2006 Scholar-Athlete recognition from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Friday. This year's honorees received a varsity tennis letter, maintained a minimum 3.50 grade-point average for the 2005-06 academic year and attended their institutions for at least two semesters. Routon was one of 322 NCAA Division III female student-athletes honored by the ITA.

Routon ranked second on the team in singles wins and third in doubles victories. She went 6-5 in dual matches, splitting time at fourth and fifth singles. Routon registered an 11-8 overall record and went 2-5 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action. In the ODAC Tournament, Routon placed seventh at fifth singles with a 2-2 record. She teamed with Caitlin Mayton at second doubles and went 2-3 in league contests. The pair went 1-3 at the ODAC Tournament and placed eighth. Routon's overall doubles record was 6-6.

Routon also excelled in the classroom where she made the dean's list for the spring semester. She was an Academic All-ODAC selection and twice named to Guilford's Student-Athlete Honor Roll.

Coach Jennifer Anderson's Quakers finished their most successful season since 1998 with a 10-5 overall record, 4-5 in the ODAC. They placed seventh among 11 teams at the ODAC Tournament. Guilford expects six letter winners back in 2006-07.
