Women's Tennis Release (2004-05) - Landay Earns Academic All-American Honor - Guilford College

  • GUILFORD'S LANDAY EARNS ACADEMIC TENNIS HONOR

 

Greensboro, NC (7/20/05) -- Anne Landay '05 received 2005 Scholar-Athlete recognition from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Wednesday. This year's honorees received a varsity tennis letter, maintained a minimum 3.50 grade-point average for the 2004-05 academic year and attended their institutions for at least two semesters. Landay was one of 327 NCAA Division III female student-athletes honored by the ITA.

 

An accomplished student, Landay was a three-time Academic All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) selection and a seven-time dean's list student. She earned degrees in history and art and was one of four student-athletes inducted into the Guilford College Scholarship Society in 2004-05.

 

Landay got off to a strong start last season, winning six of her first seven matches at sixth singles. She finished with a 12-10 overall record, 2-6 in the ODAC. Landay teamed with Song an Nguyen at second doubles. The duo won four straight matches in April and finished the year with a 10-11 mark overall, 3-5 in the ODAC. Landay also won Guilford's Sportsmanship Award for women's tennis. For her career, she went 26-39 in singles and 24-37 in doubles.

 

      Coach Jennifer Anderson's Quakers posted a 7-9 dual-match record, 1-7 in the ODAC, with a team featuring just two letter winners and seven freshmen. Guilford placed 11th out of 12 teams at the 2005 ODAC Championships. The Quakers expect five letter winners back in 2006.
